New chairperson elected

The board of directors of the Municipal Assessment Agency is pleased to announce the election of Mayor Fred Best of Clarenville as chairperson. The election was held during the board's recent meeting. Also during that meeting the board selected Mayor Stanley Reid of Heart's Delight-Islington as vice-chair. "I look forward to serving the municipalities of Newfoundland and Labrador in my capacity as chair of the agency's board of directors," said Mayor Best. "I also welcome new board members Mayor Harold �Smokey� Ball of Deer Lake representing the western region and Mayor Wayne Ruth of Kippens representing the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities." The agency's board includes:

Western        Mayor Harold "Smokey" Ball, Deer Lake
Central          Councillor Len Wellman, Springdale
Eastern         Mayor Fred Best, Clarenville (Chairperson)

The Municipal Assessment Agency provides real property assessment services to 231 municipalities across the province. Its board is representative of the agency's stakeholders with six municipal representatives, two taxpayer representatives, two provincial government representatives and a representative from each of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities and the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Municipal Administrators.
