The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland and Labrador Emergency Measures Organization:

Possible storm surge

The Newfoundland and Labrador Emergency Measures Organization (NLEMO) has been advised by Environment Canada of a possible storm surge in the area of Bay St. George and northwards along the Northern Peninsula.

These storm surges are caused by high winds. Bays and harbours that are oriented in a southwest direction could receive the highest wave action.

High tide is forecasted for early this afternoon.

Residents and fish harvesters in these areas should take appropriate action and proceed with extreme caution.

For more information on possible storm conditions, please contact Tom King, Environment Canada, (709) 256-6637.
