Province working to create jobs at Bull Arm Site

Mines and Energy Minister Walter Noel said today that government is working diligently to create jobs at the Bull Arm fabrication site.

The Bull Arm site was utilized in the construction and fabrication activities associated with the Hibernia and Terra Nova projects, but has not secured a major contract since 2001.

"The Bull Arm Site Corporation is promoting the capabilities of the site," said Minister Noel. "We have a state-of-the-art facility which would be an asset to any fabrication project."

"We have been identifying opportunities for the Bull Arm site, including work generated by the Sable Island, Deep Panuke and White Rose projects. We spend a lot of time promoting the area to the proponents of these projects. While we have nothing confirmed yet, there are some encouraging prospects. We are hopeful that some of this work will be undertaken at Bull Arm.

"I understand the frustration of some local workers. However, the Bull Arm site will only be used if contractors interested in undertaking projects at the site are competitive enough to get the work. We will continue to work with potential investors to ensure that every opportunity is examined."
