(MHA - Humber Valley)

The following is being distributed at the request of Rick Woodford, MHA - Humber Valley:

Rick Woodford, MHA for Humber Valley and Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, today announced that he will not be seeking re-election in the upcoming provincial election due to health reasons.

"This was a very difficult decision for me," said Mr. Woodford. "However, after extensive discussion with my family and my physicians, as late as last week, I have decided that my health must be my priority at this time and, therefore, I will not run in the provincial election."

Over the past couple of years, Mr. Woodford has undergone surgery for a brain tumor and radio-surgery a short time later when the tumor returned. Mr. Woodford added: "My physicians say the long term prognosis appears good at this point, however they also tell me that the next two years or more will continue to be a period of painful recovery and are advising that I take it easy and allow for a better healing process.

"I wish to take this opportunity to thank Premier Grimes and my Caucus and Cabinet colleagues for their support over the years, especially the past two years. As well, I extend a special thank you to the constituents of Humber Valley. Words cannot describe my appreciation for their support and trust in me as their member of the House of Assembly for the past 18 years."

Mr. Woodford will remain as the Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods until after the provincial election.
