Minister appoints new provincial court judge

Justice Minister and Attorney General Kelvin Parsons is pleased to announce the following appointment:

Bruce Short, is named a judge of the Provincial Court bench, Judicial Centre of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. He replaces Catherine Allen-Westby, who has been reassigned to the Judicial Centre of Stephenville.

Mr. Short graduated with a B.A, english major, and a bachelor of education degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. He obtained a bachelor of law at the University of New Brunswick in 1991 and was called to the Newfoundland Bar in 1992.

He articled with Monaghan, Seaborn Law Firm in Corner Brook from 1991. He was staff solicitor with Legal Aid in Stephenville from 1995-97 and then with Legal Aid in Corner Brook from 1997 to present.

"I extend best wishes and congratulations to Mr. Short in his new position. He will be an asset to the Provincial Court of Newfoundland," said Minister Parsons.

Mr. Short takes up his residence and new duties in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on November 1, 2003.
