Province appoints Commissioner to Public Complaints Commission

Justice Minister Kelvin Parsons today announced the appointment of Lois Hoegg, Q.C., to serve as the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Public Complaints Commissioner.

"Ms. Hoeggs record is one of achievement with distinction and honour," said Minister Parsons. "She has considerable experience as a practising lawyer, both as a Crown Attorney and in private practice."

Ms. Hoegg replaces Dr. Leslie Harris who recently resigned for health reasons. Dr. Harris held his appointment since the inception of the Public Complaints Commission upon Proclamation of the RNC Act on May 1, 1993.

"Dr. Harris efforts to organize and legitimize the newly-created Public Complaints Commission have left a lasting mark of distinction," said the minister.

The appointment becomes effective immediately.
