Delegation to attend international aerospace exhibition in Halifax

A delegation of seven Newfoundland and Labrador aerospace and defence companies and organizations will attend the Nova Scotia International Air Show and Aerospace Exhibition (NSIAS) being held at Shearwater Airport near Halifax, from September 4-7, 2003. The delegation is being organized by the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development in a continuing effort to support the growth of the aerospace industry in the province.

"The Nova Scotia International Air Show and Aerospace Exhibition is an excellent opportunity for Newfoundland and Labrador aerospace and defence companies to promote their expertise and capabilities to major international players in this industry," said Industry, Trade and Rural Development Minister Judy Foote. "This exhibition will feature aerospace and defence contractors from across the country, including those expected to bid on the federal governments Maritime Helicopter Project that will replace the existing SeaKing fleet of aircraft."

The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation will consist of the following companies:

  • CHC Composites Limited, Gander
  • College of the North Atlantic, Gander Campus
  • Gander Aerospace Training Centre
  • Goose Bay Airport Corporation
  • NewTech Instruments, St. Johns
  • Northstar Network Ltd., St. Johns
  • Town of Gander.

"The aerospace and defence sector in this province has great potential to create new jobs and stimulate economic growth. Over 30 companies, employing approximately 600 people are presently active in the industry," said Minister Foote. "By participating in trade and investment promotion events such as the Nova Scotia exhibition, we are helping our companies explore and capture new market opportunities around the world."

The Nova Scotia International Air Show and Exhibition is a prestigious international event that attracts major aerospace and defence contractors from around the world. It is considered by many to be one of the premiere aerospace and defence events in Canada.

The aerospace and defence industry was identified in governments Renewal Strategy for Jobs and Growth as having the potential to develop a high technology niche manufacturing and service industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. The sector presently generates annual sales of $20 million throughout the province.
