NLIS 2 May 14, 2003 (Industry, Trade and Rural Development) Ministers announce export seminars across province The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Honourable Judy Foote, Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development, today announced details on a series of export seminars to be offered to the business community in a number of locations across the province during Export Development Days, to be held from May 26-30, 2003. Export Development Days celebrates the role that export development plays in the economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador and the business growth of our companies. "Enhancing the export knowledge and capabilities of our local companies is a key way to help develop our provincial economy," noted Minister Byrne. "The Government of Canada is pleased to support Export Development Days, which will provide businesses across Newfoundland and Labrador with practical information on how to develop their export potential." "A key priority for action in Government's Renewal Strategy for Jobs and Growth is increased attention to trade and export promotion as a means of creating new jobs and diversifying the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Foote. "New initiatives such as Export Development Days, and these seminars in particular, are examples of how the Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development is working with its partners to create the right environment for export development and business growth." Two series of seminars will be held during the week in locations across the province. The Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development will deliver a "Preparing for a Trade Mission" seminar which will focus on the value to an exporting business of participating in a government sponsored trade mission, what a company needs to do to prepare for a successful mission, and how the department�s staff and services can assist with their export business goals. The Export Development Days seminars are funded by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Comprehensive Economic Development Agreement (CEDA), a $94.99 million initiative designed to strengthen and diversify the provincial economy.
