Tentative agreement reached with Newfoundland Association of Ambulance Services

Gerald Smith, Minister of Health and Community Services, today announced government has reached a tentative agreement with the Newfoundland Association of Ambulance Services, the largest group of private ambulance operators in the province.

"Officials from my department have been involved in intense negotiations with this group over the last week and were successful in negotiating a deal that both parties are pleased with," said Minister Smith. "We will be finalizing the details of the agreement in the coming days."

Minister Smith says that government recognizes the important role of ambulance operators throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. "The role of ambulance operators in our health and community services system is vital. I am very pleased that we were able to reach a tentative agreement with this group."

The deal provides for raises for paramedics to improve recruitment and retention, funding to expand staffing capacity, and funding to cover higher expenses
