Contract awarded for new health facility in Grand Bank

A contract for the Grand Bank Health Care Centre has been awarded to a company from St. Lawrence. Judy Foote, Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development and MHA for the District of Grand Bank, made the announcement today in conjunction with Works, Services and Transportation Minister Jim Walsh and Health and Community Services Minister Gerald Smith.

Minister Walsh said government awarded the contract, valued at $622,105, to RJG Construction Ltd of St. Lawrence. "I am delighted the contract has been awarded so that work can now begin on the facility," said Minister Walsh. "This contract includes placement of the foundation and installation of site services, such as water and sewer piping. The work will commence immediately and is scheduled to be completed by July 15, 2003."

"I am very pleased that the contract for the first phase of the new health facility in Grand Bank has been awarded to RJG Construction of St Lawrence. This phase will include foundation work that will begin this summer. Tenders for the second phase, which will include the main building construction, will be let the middle of June for work to begin shortly thereafter. The investment in this infrastructure will ensure a continuation of high quality health care in the region," said Minister Foote.

Minister Smith said he is pleased that work will begin on the new Grand Bank health facility. "Government continues to make investments to ensure that our health facilities meet the needs of residents and health professionals, and this new facility will improve the health services, including long-term care, for the people in the Grand Bank area. I am very pleased that construction will begin this summer, with the goal of completing the facility by the winter of 2005," he said.
