Minister announces Crown land public draw for cottage lots

George Sweeney, Minister of Government Services and Lands, announced today that government will hold a public draw at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, at the Government Service Centre, Noton Building, Riverside Drive, Corner Brook for cottage lots.

Minister Sweeney said: "There is a strong public demand for such recreational cottage lots in many areas of the province and we try to make a number available to the public each year. I encourage interested parties to participate in the cottage draw process in the following areas:"

  • GEORGE�S LAKE: Three Leases (non-waterfront).
  • BONNE BAY BIG POND: 10 Leases (Four waterfront and six non-waterfront).
  • LONG POND/BALLS POND (Hughes Brook Area): One Licence to Occupy (waterfront, remote cottage).
  • MILAN ARM (St. Anthony Area): One Lease (waterfront).

Lots at Bonne Bay Big Pond and George�s Lake are surveyed and have direct road access and a waste disposal design approved by the Department of Government Services and Lands. Lot prices range from $5,200 to $7,500. Information on individual lot prices can be obtained from the Regional Lands Office at the address shown. Bonne Bay Big Pond and George�s Lake lots are available as leases with the fee paid over a five year period. A non-refundable document fee of $200 is required at the time the lot is selected.

The lot at Long Pond/Balls Pond is available as a Licence to Occupy for a remote cottage with an annual rental of $75. A non-refundable document fee of $100 is required at the time the lot is selected.

The lot at Milan Arm is surveyed and has direct road access and a waste disposal design approved by the Department of Government Services and Lands. The lot has been priced at $4,000 and is available as a lease with the fee paid over a five year period. A non-refundable document fee of $200 is required at the time the lot is selected.

Applications must be received at the Regional Lands Office, Noton Building, Riverside Drive, Corner Brook, on or before the deadline of 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2003. Applications not received at address below on or before the deadline will not be eligible for the draw. Application forms can be obtained from the aforementioned office or the attached form may be used. Please note - an application fee of $115 is required for EACH draw selected. This fee will be credited towards the cost of processing the successful applications. This application fee is ONLY refundable to applicants unsuccessful in the draw.

All applicants will be contacted by certified mail with information on the lot selection meeting which will take place 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 27, at the Regional Lands Office, Noton Building, Riverside Drive, Corner Brook. Applicants may attend the public draw but attendance is not necessary.

Non-refundable document fees will be credited towards the cost of preparing the lease documents. In the case of leases, upon receipt of the final payment and provided the applicant has meet the development conditions (cabin constructed), a grant will be issued subject only to administration fees. PLEASE MAKE ALL CHEQUES AND MONEY ORDERS PAYABLE TO THE NEWFOUNDLAND EXCHEQUER ACCOUNT.

Any lots remaining after the lot selection meeting will be available to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis on Thursday August 28, at the Regional Lands Office.
