Gambo man convicted on wildlife charge

A Gambo man was recently convicted in Goose Bay Provincial Court for hunting caribou from a vehicle. Stephen Ward was fined $1,000 and prohibited from hunting big game for five years. A 303 rifle was also forfeited to the Crown.

The charge was laid following an incident in November 2002 on Esker Road, west of Churchill Falls, during the Labrador caribou hunt.. Also charged in the incident was George Russell Jr. of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. He was convicted earlier this year for harassing wildlife with a vehicle. Mr Russell was also fined $1,000 and given a five-year hunting prohibition.
