Department to set up check stations

The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods will be establishing random check stations throughout the province as part of the departments efforts to ensure compliance with forestry and wildlife regulations.

The check stations will be set up in strategic locations along provincial highways and forest access roads. All vehicles transporting timber will be checked for compliance with the Forestry Act and governments new Load Slip System. As well, hunters will be checked to ensure compliance with wildlife regulations.

Minister Rick Woodford said check stations demonstrate the departments prudent approach to protecting our outdoor resources. "Government can never be too vigilant in ensuring the laws that protect our wildlife and forest resources are being followed," said the minister.

"We are asking for the publics cooperation when they are stopped by conservation officers at the check stations. I encourage everybody to respect our professional enforcement officers as they carry out their important duties."
