Terrenceville man sentenced for fisheries and wildlife offences

Fifty-year old Kevin Lavhey of Terrenceville was sentenced to an additional six months in jail and fined $27,000 during a recent court appearance at Grand Bank Provincial Court after being convicted in May 2003 of 32 offences under the provincial Wildlife Act and the federal Fisheries Act. Mr. Lavhey has been in custody since his conviction.

Mr. Lavhey is also prohibited from holding a big game licence for life, prohibited from angling in inland waters for 10 years and placed on probation for three years.

The charges were laid by conservation officers with the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods following an undercover investigation in 2001-2002 in the Terrenceville and Monkstown Road areas on the Burin Peninsula.

The offences included illegal possession of Atlantic salmon, trafficking in Atlantic salmon, hunting big game without a licence, hunting big game at night, killing big game without a licence, illegal possession of big game, trafficking in big game, loaded firearms in a vehicle and possessing firearms and ammunition without valid game licences.
