Minister welcomes enforcement officers to province

Rick Woodford, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, today extended a warm welcome to wildlife enforcement officers from across Canada, the United States and Britain to our province for the 22nd Annual North American Wildlife Enforcement Officers Association Conference taking place in St. Johns July 21-27.

As the minister responsible for wildlife and forestry enforcement, Minister Woodford said he is extremely pleased that the conference is being held in Newfoundland and Labrador this year. "It is indeed an appropriate time to hold a conference of such magnitude in this province. Our enforcement efforts have strengthened tremendously in recent years and we are experiencing the highest level of enforcement than ever before. The fact that the conference is taking place here truly recognizes our enforcement successes and efficiency."

Minister Woodford stressed that the provinces progressive wildlife and forestry enforcement is the result of a very dedicated and highly-trained enforcement team. "We are proud of our conservation officers who form the backbone of the department. Their high quality enforcement is key to the protection and sustainability of our outdoor resources. I applaud them, as well as enforcement officers from all across North America and abroad, for their efforts."

Minister Woodford also acknowledged the work of the Newfoundland and Labrador Conservation Officers Association in organizing the conference in partnership with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Canadian Wildlife Service and Parks Canada.

"A lot of hard work has gone into planning this conference, which includes an impressive line-up of speakers, professional seminars, training sessions and social gatherings. The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods is honoured to be associated with such a significant event."

Minister Woodford commended all enforcement officers for their hard work and dedication. "We appreciate the important work that our conservation officers do and the sacrifices they make each day in protecting our outdoor resources," he said.
