NLIS 2 June 12, 2003 (Forest Resources and Agrifoods) Junior Forest Wardens holding annual tree sale The Junior Forest Wardens Association will be holding its 8th Annual Tree Sale Day fundraiser on Saturday, June 14 at the Forest Ecology Centre on Brookfield Road in St. John�s. Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford is encouraging the public to support the Junior Forest Wardens� tree sale, which has become a successful fundraiser over the years. The minister said a variety of trees will be available for sale again this year, including both native and non-native trees and shrubs. The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods sponsors the Junior Forest Warden Program, which is a challenging and rewarding forestry youth program that emphasizes the responsible use of our natural environment. Currently, there are several active Junior Forest Warden groups throughout the province. The program is open to boys and girls and is a family-oriented program, which also encourages and prides itself on family involvement and participation. Minister Woodford said: "An annual tree sale is a good way to promote the importance of the responsible use of our forest resources to our everyday lives. I wish to commend the Junior Forest Wardens for their commitment to responsible environmental stewardship and fostering a greater respect for our natural resources." The tree sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will go towards the cost of purchasing equipment and providing financial support to member clubs around the province for programming activities.
