Deadline extension for domestic wood cutting permit holders

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford today announced that the expiry date for current domestic wood cutting permits, that would have expired March 31, has been extended to April 30. This extension is due to extraordinary snow and temperature conditions experienced over the winter.

"Weather conditions throughout this past winter have made it very difficult for many people, particularly elderly persons who rely on domestic wood, to access those areas where the wood is available," said Mr. Woodford. "Most parts of the province have experienced above average snowfall and extended periods of extremely cold temperatures making it unsafe to be outdoors cutting wood in our forests. The one month extension will provide individuals with an additional opportunity to obtain the wood they require for domestic use."

The general public can obtain information about domestic cutting permits at any regional or district forestry office around the province. All domestic wood cutting permit holders are reminded that a return must be made on all domestic permits. This return must be completed and forwarded to forestry offices not later than 20 days after the expiry date. Failure to do so may make you ineligible to receive a cutting permit in the future. Permit returns are found on the back of cutting permits.
