NLIS 8 September 25, 2003 (Executive Council) Site unveiled for Grand Falls-Windsor cancer clinic Premier Roger Grimes and Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education Minister Anna Thistle, MHA for Grand Falls-Buchans District, today unveiled the site for a new cancer clinic in Grand Falls-Windsor. The new two-storey addition to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre will cost an estimated $4.1 million. "Health care remains a top priority for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and investments such as this help to ensure a healthy and active population," said Premier Grimes. "Investment in hospital infrastructure and diagnostic equipment is also vital in the recruitment and retention of health professionals to our province." In recent years, there have been tremendous advances in health care for the central Newfoundland region. A new Carmelite House for seniors, dialysis unit, mobile MRI, bone densitometer equipment and now a cancer clinic - have made this region one of the best-equipped health care centres in the province. "This new addition to the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre will benefit the entire region, and I am delighted that patients and families will now have access to a modern facility that will provide quality care in a bright and cheerful environment," said Minister Thistle. Before construction can begin on the facility, modifications will have to be made to the health centres existing parking lot. Tenders for this work close today. Tenders for the construction of the cancer clinic will be called in January 2004. Media contact:
