Premier proclaims Public Service Week in Newfoundland and Labrador

Premier Roger Grimes has declared the week of June 15 to June 21, 2003 as Public Service Week in Newfoundland and Labrador. The signing was witnessed by Treasury Board President Joan Marie Aylward and members of the Public Service Week Committee (see photo). The theme of the week is Working Together, Succeeding Together.

Premier Grimes said: "This special week gives us an opportunity to recognize the thousands of men and women in the public service who are making such a valuable contribution to our province. And we have much to celebrate - teamwork, dedication, leadership and excellence. I commend the high level of ability and commitment of those in our public service and I thank them for their work on behalf of the government and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador."

Ms. Aylward said: "Again this year we are pleased to recognize the essential work of our public service in Newfoundland and Labrador. Through the public service, we achieve good management of the province�s economy, as well as good stewardship of the province�s resources. In the face of our many challenges, we rely on our highly competent, professional, non-partisan public service to get the job done, to carry out government�s various policy agendas in an effective, efficient, responsible and innovative manner."

Deborah Fry, Clerk of the Executive Council, said: "Every day, the hardworking members of our public service make a tremendous contribution to the quality of life we enjoy in this province. As reflected in our theme, Working Together, Succeeding Together, a cooperative culture is the hallmark of our public service. I acknowledge the men and women who have chosen a career in public service, and thank all of them for the tremendous role they play in serving the people of our province."

During the week, special events will take place in various parts of the province, recognizing the work of public service employees and highlighting the programs and services they deliver to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
