Ministers comment on meeting regarding CFB Goose Bay

The Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs Tom Lush says hes pleased with the results of a meeting in Ottawa yesterday of the Senior Officials Working Group recently established to support the federal/provincial Goose Bay Marketing Committee.

The minister said: "The meetings were successful in that concentration was on identifying initiatives that will enhance the current flight training programs so that the needs of present and potential clients are met. The officials also looked at ways to position CFB Goose Bay so that the facilities can meet the challenges of new technology."

The Minister of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Wally Andersen stated: "I have been working with Minister Lush as we look for ways to ensure the long term viability of CFB Goose Bay, and we fully support the Seniors Officials Working Group as they continue detailed talks on ways to enhance the training programs."

Minister Lush said: "It should also be noted that the group met with a representative of the Goose Bay Airport Marketing Committee. The federal/provincial marketing committee is committed to consulting with all stakeholders as part of its mandate. Yesterdays meeting is another progressive step as we work cooperatively to ensure the future of CFB Goose Bay."

The steering committee is expected to receive a report of yesterdays senior officials meeting with the next few weeks.
