Premier and ministers to hold meetings in Ottawa

Premier Roger Grimes, Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Yvonne Jones and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Tom Lush will be in Ottawa on Monday for meetings related to the federal government�s decision to close the cod fisheries in 2J3KL and 3Pn4RS.

They will meet with Deputy Prime Minister John Manley, Minister of Finance; federal Fisheries Minister Robert Thibault; and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Stephane Dion.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador requested the meetings to register strong objections to the April 24 federal announcement announcing closure of the 2J3KL and 3Pn4RS fisheries. The Premier and ministers will also address with the federal ministers the inadequacies of the federal "action plan" to assist communities and individuals.
