Intergovernmental Affairs minister to meet 9 Wing Gander base commander

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Tom Lush will be in Gander on Friday, April 11 to meet with Base Commander Lt. Col. Peter McKeage and officials of 9 Wing Gander.

In addition to their discussions, the minister will tour the base with Lt. Col. McKeage.

Minister Lush stated: "This is an opportunity to review a number of areas of mutual interest concerning the Gander base, and in particular to see the operation of 103 Search and Rescue (SAR) Squadron."

Minister Lush noted that since the deployment of the new Comorant helicopters to 9 Wing Gander, the squadron has played a significant role in a number of dramatic rescue efforts.

The minister said: "We value the important relationship the government has forged with the air force in this province. This meeting is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the presence of the Canadian military in Newfoundland and Labrador as we continue to develop a closer, cooperative relationship with 9 Wing Gander, and the military in Goose Bay and St. John�s."
