Premier announces senior appointment

Premier Roger Grimes today announced the appointment of Kevin Lane as assistant deputy minister of Labrador Operations with the Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs. Mr. Lane will be based in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

"The appointment of Mr. Lane completes the realignment of executive at the Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs," said the Premier. "Along with the recent appointment of Sterling Peyton as deputy minister, government is well-positioned to receive sound advice on policies affecting Labrador and aboriginal issues."

The appointment is effective as of March 18, 2003.

Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs

A graduate of Memorial University with undergraduate degrees in English and Education and a master�s degree in Education, the Labrador native began his career as a teacher in Happy Valley - Goose Bay. He occupied positions of increasing responsibility throughout the province�s school system, including principal of several schools in Labrador, until undertaking the role of Program Coordinator with the Labrador School Board in Happy Valley - Goose Bay. Mr. Lane is active in the community, establishing an educational services business and working as a sports reporter, a high school guidance counselor and a facilitator for the "Speak Out" program in Labrador. Mr. Lane is an active volunteer in the areas of crisis response, high school athletics, crisis counseling and intervention training, and the environment.
