Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Crown Forest Management District 4 (Terra Nova Lake) Amendment             (Reg. 1112)
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

The proponent plans to harvest approximately 1,500 cubic metres of softwood from 31 hectares of mature and overmature softwood stands to the southeast of Terra Nova Lake in Forest Management District 4. Harvesting is proposed to take place in mature black spruce forest located along the old Terra Nova woods road, presently covered under the Abitibi-Consolidated Timber Exchange Agreement with the Crown. No additional road building is proposed, as existing road infrastructure is in place. The undertaking was registered on December 19, 2003; public comments are due by January 23, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due on February 2, 2004.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
