Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Tom Osborne has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Seldom Breakwater Construction                                                                              (Reg. 1110)
Proponent: Public Works and Government Services Canada

The proponent in conjunction with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Small Crafts and Harbours Branch, proposes to construct a rubblemound breakwater structure approximately 135 metres long into Seldom Harbour, Fogo Island. The breakwater will be 40 metres wide on the ocean floor with a crest width of five metres and be constructed to an elevation of five metres high. Construction will involve placement of stones over the indented footprint which will then be covered with armour stone. The undertaking was registered on December 3, 2003; public comments are due by January 8, 2004; and, the minister's decision is due on January 17, 2004.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
