Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Bob Mercer has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Joe�s Lake/Badger Brook Abitibi-Consolidated Cottage Development
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.

The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following condition:

  • Cottages are required to be built as slab on grade or on piers with a minimum finished floor elevation of 0.7 metres above the existing ground. Any associated domestic fuel tanks must be in compliance with the Heating Oil Storage Tank System Regulations and installed at least 0.7 metres above the elevation of the existing ground.

Abitibi Forest Management District 5 (Traverse Brook) Amendment
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.

The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following condition:

  • Harvesting operations must be scheduled during the winter months and the use of winter and temporary roads must be employed to reduce any environmental impacts and built to acceptable standards as required by Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods.

Millertown Junction Area, District 16 Crown Forest Management Plan Amendment
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following condition:

  • Harvesting shall not take place between June 15 and July 15 to minimize disturbance to caribou during the post-calving period.
