Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Bob Mercer has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Millertown Junction Area District 16 Five-Year Forest Mgmt Plan Amendment
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources & Agrifoods

The proponent intends to include an additional 130 hectare area in the southeast corner of Forest Management District 16 for harvesting in the Kings Brook area, located approximately 50 kilometres southwest of the community of South Brook, Green Bay. This Amendment would enable the harvesting of 10,000 cubic metres of softwood sawlog and pulpwood requiring 1.5 kilometres of operational road. Annually until March 2007, up to 4,000 cubic metres will be harvested from mature and overmature stands. The project was registered on August 29, 2003; public comments are due by October 3, 2003; and, the minister�s decision is due October 13, 2003.

Baie Verte Golf Course and RV Trailer Park
Proponent: Cooper Creek 2000 Inc.

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a nine hole golf course along the south side of the saltwater body of Baie Verte, adjacent to the Copper Creek Mountain Ski Resort in the Town of Baie Verte. Also, 50 sites will be developed as a Recreational Vehicle (RV) Trailer Park and will utilize existing municipal water and sewer services in the area. Construction is anticipated to start the fall of 2003. The undertaking was registered on August 28, 2003; public comments are due by October 3, 2003; and, the minister�s decision is due by October 12, 2003.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
