NLIS 5 August 15, 2003 (Environment) Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment Minister Bob Mercer has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act. UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED: Nain Wind Turbine Generation Farm Proponent: Unity Bay Energy Ltd. The proponent proposes to construct and operate a 750 kilowatt (kW) wind turbine generation farm in Nain, Labrador, near the town�s municipal boundary limits to the south of Unity Bay. The proposed wind farm will include 15 (50 kW) wind turbine generators, on 24-30 metre high lattice towers, with 15 metre diameter three-bladed rotors. Power from the wind farm will be sold to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro to supplement the existing diesel generating plant for distribution and resale to customers. Construction for the project will also include a control panel room, storage shed, and approximately 1,500 metres of transmission line to bring power to the Hydro plant. The undertaking was registered on August 14, 2003; public comments are due by September 19, 2003; and, the minister�s decision is due by September 28, 2003. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
