Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Bob Mercer has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Crown Forest Management District 18 Five-year Plan Amendment
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

The proponent proposes an amendment to the current five-year plan (2002-2007) to harvest insect damaged timber in the Camp 20 Operating Area (winter roads only) and to harvest class III timber in the Ocean Pond Operating Area (new roads to be constructed). The Camp 20 amendment covers 133 hectares and includes harvesting 9,897 cubic metres of merchantable softwood volume. The Ocean Pond amendment covers 91 hectares and includes construction of 3.7 kilometres of forest access road, and the harvesting of 6,720 cubic metres of merchantable volume. The project was registered on June 3, 2003; public comments are due by July 9, 2003; and the Minister's decision is due July 18, 2003.

The Minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the Minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown.
