Environment Minister visits Town of Badger

Environment Minister Bob Mercer visited the Town of Badger today to see first-hand the effects of the flooding in the town. Minister Mercer attended the morning meeting of the Emergency Operations Committee (EOC), travelled around the community, took the opportunity to get an aerial view of the ice build-up and visited some of the shelters which have now become home to the displaced residents.

"The images that we have seen through the media only tell a small part of the story of what has happened in Badger," said Minister Mercer. "Seeing it first-hand has given me a better sense of the extent of the flooding and the impact it has had on the people of Badger."

Minister Mercer said he was impressed with the efforts of the officials of the Department of Environment, Emergency Measures Organization, the Departments of Government Services and Lands and Human Resources and Employment, the Town of Badger, and the many volunteers.

"I commend all those who have been on the scene since this flood occurred nearly two weeks ago," said Minister Mercer. "They have committed themselves to assisting the people of Badger and to closely monitoring the situation. The true spirit of the people of this province is quite evident despite this disaster."
