NLIS 4 December 15, 2003 (Education) Contract awarded for Northshore Elementary school project Education Minister John Ottenheimer is pleased to announce today Brook Enterprises of Corner Brook has been awarded the contract for the Northshore Elementary School project in Meadows. Construction plans for Northshore include building an extension and renovations to the existing building and grounds. "Planning for the Northshore Elementary School project has been ongoing for the past couple of years and we are pleased to be able to move forward with it at this time," said Minister Ottenheimer. "I am confident the students, parents and staff will be delighted to learn they are another step closer to seeing this project completed." Government has allocated in excess of $3.5 million for the project which will see the K-6 school become a K-12 facility with a total enrolment of 600 students. Plans include enlarging the gymnasium, a new library/resource centre, a new lunchroom and other instructional spaces. The school will also include a challenging needs suite and a technology education suite. Once complete, the 54,500 square foot school will accommodate younger students on the first floor, and older students on the second. The school will be wheelchair accessible and have a paved parking lot. "This school will offer the highest quality teaching and learning resources and will be equipped to prepare its graduates for future success," added the minister. "We thank all our education partners for the role they have played in seeing this project come to fruition and look forward to the benefits of the improved facility in the not-too-distant future."
