Department of Education, Memorial University hosting education forum The Department of Education, in partnership with the Atlantic Provinces Educational Foundation (APEF) and Memorial University�s Faculty of Education, is sponsoring an education forum entitled Partnering for Quality Teaching and Learning. On February 16-17, deans of education from each of the Atlantic provinces will meet with senior educators from the four Atlantic departments of education and provincial teachers� associations to discuss issues relating to teacher education programs and common challenges facing the school systems of Atlantic Canada. "This forum - the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada - will provide us with the opportunity to address common education issues with a view to sharing and cooperating to achieve better student learning through teacher education in Atlantic Canada," said Minister Foote. "Education officials from each of the four provinces will have the opportunity to discuss a range of issues but will focus particularly on the changing educational landscape in Atlantic Canada in the context of teacher training." Premier Roger Grimes and Education Minister Judy Foote will address the forum on Sunday. Monday�s session will be a working meeting to identify the means by which the three partnering groups can work together to enhance education for Atlantic Canadian students. "Our teachers are an exceptional group of professionals committed to the education and well-being of our students," said Minister Foote. "We have the responsibility to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to prepare our students for future success. By sharing best-practice ideas in teacher education, we will ensure a quality teaching force for our students is maintained."
