NOTE TO EDITORS:

Official Re-opening of Memorial Universitys European Campus

Closed since May for extensive renovation, Memorial University of Newfoundlands European campus in Harlow will re-open officially on Friday, September 13. Memorial is one of only two Canadian universities that have campuses in Britain.

Sandra Kelly, Minister of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Mel Cappe, Canadian high commissioner to the UK, will join Dr. Axel Meisen, president and vice-chancellor of Memorial, and Dr. Alan Perry, chairman of Harlow Campus Board of Trustees, and Karen Cracknell, campus director, in Harlow, UK, to celebrate the re-opening. Other guests will include representatives from Harlow businesses, educational institutions and local government, as well as officials from Memorial University and the provincial government in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The newly refurbished campus is designed to meet the needs of todays learners and is ideal for executive programs, retreats and conferences. With technologically equipped meeting facilities and residence accommodations, as well as excellent food service capacity, it will support university programs during academic terms and be available for booking by other organizations at other times during the year.

The reopening event will be held at 12 noon on Friday, September 13, 2002. Tours and luncheon will follow the opening. Media agencies are encouraged to send representatives. Harlow Campus is located in Old Harlow, Essex, England; detailed directions are available upon request.
