Outer Ring Road now open to Logy Bay Road

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Walter Noel, MHA - Virginia Waters, announced today that motorists can now travel on the Outer Ring Road as far as Logy Bay Road.

"I am extremely pleased with how the entire Outer Ring Road project has improved traffic flow in and out of the St. Johns area," said Minister Barrett. "The section we are opening today will provide an additional access to the Trans Canada Highway from the east end of the city, Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, Torbay and other communities on the northeast Avalon."

Minister Noel said: "In addition to improving traffic flows for the people of my district, the Outer Ring Road has been a great boost to the economy of the area. To date approximately $60 million has been spent on the road and represents over 1,000 direct and indirect seasonal jobs. This is a first class road and I am delighted that it is now extended to Logy Bay Road."

Work is progressing on the final phase of the project, a two-lane arterial stretching from Logy Bay Road to the East White Hills Road. This 2.5 kilometre section is expected to be completed by fall 2003.
