Another phase of the Outer Ring Road opens

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Walter Noel, MHA - Virginia Waters, announced the Torbay Road to Aberdeen Avenue extension of the Outer Ring Road opened to motorists today.

"This section of road will provide access to Stavanger Drive from the Outer Ring Road and will help relieve traffic congestion at the intersection of Torbay Road and Stavanger Drive," said Minister Barrett. "Motorists have reacted very positively to improved traffic flow with the opening of other sections of the Outer Ring Road, and we anticipate the same result from drivers using this newly available section."

"The Outer Ring has been a great solution to transportation problems in our area which have increased as a result of tremendous commercial and residential development, and it has achieved this while accommodating environmental considerations and providing for the needs of area residents," said Walter Noel, Minister of Government Services and Lands, and MHA for Virginia Waters.

The 20 kilometre Outer Ring Road project is valued at approximately $68.2 million. Upon its completion in 2003, it will provide motorists direct access to the east end of St. Johns via divided highway. Additionally, access to the provincial highway network for communities north of the city will be more convenient.
