Significant road upgrades planned for District of Grand Bank

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Judy Foote, MHA for Grand Bank, announced today that, through the 2002-2003 provincial capital roads program, government will be making significant investments in road improvements in the District of Grand Bank.

"We recognize a need for upgrading transportation in the District of Grand Bank and are pleased to be able to carry out various projects in the area," said Minister Barrett. "Motorists will certainly experience better driving conditions when these projects are completed."

"This investment will see a considerable improvement in the quality of roads in the District of Grand Bank. The completion of the work will provide obvious benefits to the residents of the district. It is also very important to provide better roadways for the many tourists who travel the area," said Minister Foote.

Projects planned for the Grand Bank area include:

  • pulverizing and re-paving a section of Route 220 from Little St. Lawrence towards Epworth;
  • pulverizing and re-paving a section of Route 210 from Grand Beach towards Grand Bank; and
  • replacing a retaining wall in Garnish.

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next several weeks.
