Carbonear-Harbour Grace to receive road upgrades

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Percy Barrett and Carbonear-Harbour Grace MHA George Sweeney announced today the district will receive road upgrades in 2002-2003.

"This department is committed to providing a solid transportation infrastructure to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, and weve identified areas in the district of Carbonear-Harbour Grace in which we will carry out improvements," said Minister Barrett. "I am pleased my department will soon get started on these projects."

Projects include resurfacing a section of Thicket Road; resurfacing sections of the Carbonear Bypass to correct rutting; and installing a curb at James Parsons Road, Freshwater. The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next several weeks.

"I am very pleased government has selected these areas to receive upgrades. I am especially pleased with these upgrades after the considerable amount of progress being made on the Conception Bay North Access Road," said Mr. Sweeney. "In addition, I am glad that Minister Barrett will visit the district so we can address other transportation concerns."
