St. George�s-Stephenville East receives road upgrades

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Percy Barrett, with MHA Kevin Aylward, announced today his department will resurface a number of roads in the district of St. George�s-Stephenville East this year.

"My department is dedicated to improving roads and highways in the province and I am, therefore, very pleased to be investing in roads in St. George�s-Stephenville East," said Minister Barrett. "With the many projects to be carried out, motorists will no doubt see a positive change when they drive throughout the district."

Projects for the area include:

resurfacing a section of Route 403, St. Theresa�s towards Flat Bay;

resurfacing a section of Route 404, Robinsons to the TCH;

resurfacing a section of Route 404, Jeffrey�s to St. David�s; and

resurfacing approximately 2 kilometres of Whites Road.

Mr. Aylward added, "The resurfacing of roads shows government�s commitment in this district to building and maintaining a reliable and safe transportation system. This attracts business, tourists and increases safety for the traveling public."

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next several weeks.
