Improvements in Humber Valley roads planned for 2002-2003

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Percy Barrett, and Humber Valley MHA Rick Woodford, announced today government has allocated money to resurface roads in the district.

"This year, we will be concentrating on improving Howley Road and Sops Arm Road," said Minister Barrett. "Investing in these areas of Humber Valley will be beneficial to both motorists in the district and tourists visiting Newfoundland and Labrador."

Mr. Woodford said: "I am very pleased with this funding allocation for road improvements, which demonstrates governments commitment to an improved transportation infrastructure in the area. This resurfacing work will ensure more enjoyable and safer driving conditions for residents and tourists."

The department plans to resurface sections of Howley Road and a section of road between the Trans Canada Highway and Sops Arm-Pollards Point in its goal to improve transportation in the area.

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next several weeks.
