Captain Earl W. Windsor to go to Marystown Shipyard for refit

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Percy Barrett and Burin-Placentia West MHA Mary Hodder announced today the contract for the annual refit of the M/V Captain Earl W. Windsor has been awarded to Marystown Shipyard.

"At a price of $273,000, Marystown Shipyard was the lowest bidder under a public tender call for the Windsors refit," said Barrett. "This is much needed work for the shipyard and we have no doubt well receive quality work from the yard."

The refit work for the Windsor includes replacement of the two main shafts, hull painting and repair, plate renewal, and other miscellaneous repairs and upgrades.

"I am very pleased with this announcement as this refit contract will provide much needed employment to the Marystown Shipyard Facility," stated Hodder. "It will be welcome news for some yard workers, at least, who are facing difficult decisions at this time concerning their future."

The refit is expected to begin early in March and be completed early to mid-April. While on refit the Windsor, which operates on the Fogo Island-Farewell-Change Islands service, will be replaced by the M/V Beaumont Hamel commencing March 6.
