National girls basketball championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador midget girls basketball team lost to Alberta 57-48 at the national championships in New Brunswick today. The half-time score was 22-19 in favor of the Newfoundland and Labrador team, but Alberta had a strong third and fourth quarter, scoring 38 points total. The top scorers for the Newfoundland and Labrador team were Kate Walsh from Conception Harbour and Sarah Sullivan from Calvert, with 10 points each. The midget team will be facing the New Brunswick team in their third game of the championships.

The juvenile girls basketball team fell to Ontario in their third game of the national basketball championships in New Brunswick. The final score was 74 for Ontario and 47 for the Newfoundland and Labrador team. The half-time score was 33-27 in favor of Ontario. The top scorer for Newfoundland and Labrador was Paula Barker from Deer Lake with 15 points. Newfoundland and Labrador will be facing Saskatchewan in their fourth game of the championships.
