National Boys Basketball Championships

The Newfoundland midget boys team defeated the Yukon last night at the National Midget Championships, in Lethbridge, Alberta and claimed 7th spot in the country. The half time score was 34-25 in favour of Newfoundland. Mark Woodland, of St. John�s led all scorers with 30 points while Sheldon Luby of Tors Cove and Mark Rowsell of St. John�s both contributed with 14 points each. The Newfoundland Midgets finished the championship with a record of one win and three loses.

The juvenile boys fell 104-55 to a strong Qu�bec team. The half time score was 64-31 in favor of Qu�bec. Brad Williams of Mount Pearl let the Newfoundland team in scoring with 19 points. Nick Higgins of St. John�s scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the province. The juvenile team placed 8th in the competition with a 0-4 record.

The championship in the juveniles will see Ontario facing Nova Scotia while Ontario and Alberta will battle for the midget title.
