The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

National Boys Basketball Championships

The Newfoundland midget boys team lost to Nova Scotia 99-59 last night at the National Midget Championships in Lethbridge, Alberta. The half-time score was 50-33 in favor of Nova Scotia. Mark Woodland of St. John�s led the Newfoundland team with 21 points and 6 rebounds, while Chris Ogbuah of Corner Brook contributed with 15 points. The Newfoundland midgets will now face the Yukon for 7th or 8th place.

The juvenile boys fell 82-78 to the Saskatchewan team in a very tough game. The half-time score was 45-43 in favor of Saskatchewan. Nick Higgins of St. John�s scored 16 points, while Adam Lawlor of Mt. Pearl also contributed 16 points for the Newfoundland team. The juvenile team will face Quebec for 7th or 8th place.

The semi-finals in the juveniles will see Ontario face British Columbia and Alberta playing Nova Scotia. The semis in the midgets will have Alberta against Saskatchewan and Ontario facing off against Nova Scotia.
