The Newfoundland midget boys team lost to Alberta 72-58 at the National Midget Championships, in Lethbridge, Alberta. The half time score was 34-28 in favor of Newfoundland but a strong second half by the Alberta Midget team was the difference in the game. The juvenile boys fell 91-51 to a strong British Columbia team. The half time score was 45-17 in favor of BC. Top scorers for Newfoundland were Patrick Whelan of Chapels Cove with 14 and Nick Higgins of St. Johns with 10 points.

Both teams will see action later today as the midgets compete against Nova Scotia and the juvenile team faces Saskatchewan. Both teams are now 0-2 for the tournament.
