The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Midget +1 provincial girls and boys volleyball tournaments

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association will be hosting two of twenty-one Pepsi minor provincial championships for the 2002 season this weekend on February 22-23. The Midget +1 girls event will have eight teams competing for top honours in Stephenville, with all matches to be played at Stephenville High School. The teams will be broken into two divisions of four, with the top two from each advancing to the playoffs that are scheduled for late Saturday afternoon. Division A is comprised of the following: Stephenville Spartans 11�s, Pasadena Academy, CBS Sabres- Conception Bay South, Smallwood Academy Panthers- Gambo. Division B is comprised of Stephenville Spartans 10�s, Appalachia, Herdman and Regina from Corner Brook.

The Pepsi Midget +1 boys championship will be held in Clarenville Middle School, with six teams set to see action. The top four teams will qualify for playoffs that are scheduled for late Saturday afternoon. The six teams in the event are: Clarenville High, Random Island, Tricentia, Booth Braves, Smallwood Academy Panthers - Gambo, and CBS Sabres.

Browning Harvey, who is the provincial sponsor of NLVA minor volleyball, supplies all awards for the championships. Any further information may be obtained by calling the NLVA at (709) 576-0817 or from the NLVA Web site www.nlva.net.
