Pepsi Junior High Volleyball Championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association is hosting their first two Pepsi minor tournaments of the season this coming weekend. On February 8-9, the NLVA brings the Junior High Girls provincial championships to St. John�s and the Junior High Boys Provincial to Stephenville. There are 32 teams registered for the girls event and 12 teams participating in the boys tournament.

The Pepsi Junior High Girls Tournament will feature a 32-team tournament that will be broken into a three-tiered event on Saturday, with the top16 teams qualifying for tier 1 and the other 16 teams split into tier 2 and tier 3 on Saturday. On Friday, all matches start at 3:45 p.m, except Prince of Wales Collegiate, which begins at 5 p.m. The gyms being used for the tournament are: Macdonald Drive Junior High, Macdonald Drive Elementary, Brother Rice Junior High, Prince of Wales Collegiate, and St. Patrick�s School. The teams are coming from all over the province. The following 32 teams are going to light up the capital: Leary�s Brook Jr. High, St. Pauls, Brother Rice, Macdonald Drive seven, eight and nines; Beaconsfield sevens and nines, Celtics nines, I.J. Samson, and St. Kevin� s; Frank Roberts nines, Frank Robert Ravens, St. Thomas Villa Nova; Roncalli; William Mercer; Smallwood Academy; St. Michael�s; Immaculate eights; Random Island; Heritage Collegiate; Amalgamated; Main River Academy; Pasadena; Grenfell White; Grenfell Blue; Exploits Valley High nines; Stephenville Spartans, Presentation Too, Presentation Panthers, and Presentation eights.

In Stephenville, the Junior High Boys will be battling for the right to call themselves Provincial Champions. The tournament is being held in Stephenville at the Stephenville High School. The 12-team tournament begins Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and runs through until Saturday evening when a champion will be crowned. The teams registered for the tournament are divided into two divisions; Division A: Presentation one; Xavier Jr. High; Carmanville; I. J. Samson; St. Thomas Villa Nova; and Roncalli. Division B includes: Stephenville, Presentation two; Amalgamated Academy; G. C.Rowe; Mount Pearl Junior High; and Brother Rice Junior High.

This is going to be a very busy weekend for everyone involved, but be sure it will be a great weekend of volleyball. The NLVA would like to thank Pepsi for sponsoring this event and would like to wish all the teams well in the tournament.
