The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Regional and provincial coaches

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association (NLVA) is now accepting applications for the positions of regional team coaches, and provincial team coaches. Below are descriptions of each program and recommended qualifications for coaches.

THE INDOOR REGIONAL PROGRAM

Athletes in this program will be comprised of ages 13-16 years old. Program will also provide excellent educational opportunity for development for coaches. Application deadline for regional coaches will be January 30, 2002.

This program is a developmentally-based program. The province will be broken up into the following regions: Avalon (two teams), Eastern, Central, Western, Labrador. Coaches are expected to prepare their team to compete in the provincial competition held on the May 24 weekend, and travel with the team to the tournament.

Criteria - Coach- Regional Team Indoor

  • Must be a member of NLVA
  • Should be a minimum NCCP Level 1 prior to applying
  • Must be willing to be involved in coach education opportunities as directed by Elite Development Committee
  • Must be willing to adhere to NLVA policies
  • Must be willing to sign contract/ agreement with association
  • Must be willing and able to commit to the time requirements to satisfy the obligations of the position
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Not be under any sort of suspension by a provincial or national sport organization
  • Provide a Certificate of Conduct
  • Recommended to have First Aid Certificate

INDOOR PROVINCIAL MIDGET AND MIDGET +1 PROGRAM

Athletes in this program will usually be comprised of 14-16 years of age, however athletes who are 13 years of age may be accepted with the approval of the Elite Development Committee. The program will also provide excellent educational opportunity for development for coaches. Application deadline for the Midget Program is February 28.

This program is developmentally-based leading from the regional program. Coaches are expected to train with their team in preparation for the Eastern Canadian Elite Championship. Coaches are also expected to travel with the team to the championships and usually to a Pre-Eastern Canadian event (ie Quebec Espoir).

Criteria - Coach- Midget and Midget +1 Indoor Programs

  • Must be a member of NLVA
  • Should be a minimum NCCP Level 2 prior to applying
  • Must be willing to adhere to NLVA policies
  • Must be willing to sign contract/ agreement with association
  • Must be willing and able to commit to the time requirements to satisfy the obligations of the position
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Not be under any sort of suspension by a provincial or national sport organization
  • Provide a Certificate of Conduct
  • Recommended to have First Aid Certificate

All applications for these positions must be submitted to the NLVA in writing and include at a minimum the following information.

  • NCCP certification
  • Coaching experience
  • Genders coached
  • Playing experience
