The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial high school boys 2A volleyball and girls 2A, 3A, and 4A
volleyball championships scheduled this weekend

The final high school volleyball championships of the year will go ahead this weekend in three locations. Four titles will be on the line as the 2A boys and girls, 3A girls and 4A girls tournaments take place.

Eric G. Lambert in Churchill Falls will host both the boys and girls 2A events. Island tournaments were held this past weekend to determine which team will represent the island at this event. Lumsden School Complex teams were successful in both the boys and girls events. In the girls division they will compete against the host, Eric G. Lambert School, Jens Haven Memorial (Nain) and Lake Melville School (Northwest River). The boys competition consists of the host Eric G. Lambert, J.C. Erhardt, School (Makkovik), Peenamin McKenzie School (Sheshatshiu) and Lumsden School Complex. Opening ceremonies will take place 5:00 p.m., Thursday followed by the first two matches of the tournament. The remainder of the round robin tournament for both boys and girls will be played Friday. The semifinal and championship games are scheduled for Saturday.

The 3A championship will be held at Heritage Collegiate in Lethbridge, Bonavista Bay. Ten teams have advanced to this tournament through qualification tournaments held two weeks ago. Division A will be played at Heritage Collegiate and along with the host school, Goose High, St. Michael�s (Bell Island), Smallwood Academy (Gambo) and Hollands Memorial (Norris Arm) will compete. Division B will be played at Padden Elementary and will feature King Academy (Harbour Breton), Grandy�s River Collegiate (Burnt Island), Pasadena Academy, Tricentia Academy (Arnold�s Cove) and Baccalieu Collegiate (Old Perlican). Games get underway 9:30 a.m. Friday morning and continue throughout the day. The last round robin games will be played Saturday morning followed by the semifinals and championship game.

Stephenville High School is the host school for the 10 team 4A girls tournament. Games will be played at Stephenville High Friday morning and the Stephenville base gym Friday afternoon and Saturday. Teams will play a two division round robin format with the top two from each division advancing to the playoffs. Division A will consist of Regina High (Corner Brook), Prince of Wales Collegiate (St. John�s), Stephenville High, Holy Heart of Mary High (St. John�s) and Exploits Valley High (Grand Falls-Windsor). Teams competing in Division B include Queen Elizabeth Regional High (Foxtrap), Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista), Herdman Collegiate (Corner Brook), Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts) and Holy Spirit High (Manuels). Matches get underway 11:00 a.m. Friday and continue throughout the day and into Saturday morning. The cross over and championship gameswill be played Saturday afternoon.

All teams involved will be competing for gold and silver medals and the championship banner. As well, the Team Sportsmanship will be awarded as part of our Sportsmanship First Program which is sponsored by Crime Stoppers Newfoundland and Labrador. Individual sportsmanship awards will also be presented.

All the federation�s tournaments are sponsored by School Milk Foundation/Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador and Crime Stoppers Newfoundland and Labrador.
