Minister announces revised season dates for lynx trapping, Zones A and B

Julie Bettney, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and minister responsible for wildlife, announced today revised harvesting season for lynx in Lynx Management Zone A (Northern Peninsula) and Zone B (South West Coast).

"The revision to the 2002/03 lynx season provides trappers with an additional five weeks trapping opportunity," said the minister. "We are expanding the season in these zones because a review of last season�s harvest information showed significant increases in lynx abundance throughout all areas of the island."

The season dates for 2002/03 will open November 23, 2002 and close as previously announced on February 1, 2003. Previously, the opening date was January 1, 2003. There are no revisions to the existing season dates in Zone C, the remainder of the island zone which commenced on October 20, 2002 and will conclude February 1, 2003.
