Provincial Heritage Showcase kicks off National Heritage Week

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, is encouraging everyone interested in this province�s heritage to take part in the Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Showcase this Saturday, February 16.

"We are pleased to partner with the Association of Heritage Industries in hosting this showcase," said Minister Aylward. "We are a province rich in heritage. This is fundamental to our understanding of who we are and where we come from. We are proud to celebrate this heritage and share it with the rest of the world. The heritage industries in this province create employment and contribute to our economy. It is an important component that supports the province�s tourism industry. This showcase will feature something for all ages and will appeal to a host of different interests.

The showcase will feature displays of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation through the Provincial Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador, Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador, Provincial Historic Sites, Provincial Archaeology Program and The Rooms. Also participating are the Art Gallery of Newfoundland and Labrador, Parks Canada, Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Archivists, Newfoundland and Labrador Genealogical Society, Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Fairs and Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Showcase takes place Saturday, February 16 at the Village Mall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. National Heritage Week runs from February 18 to 24, 2002.
